Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes and managing personal change. It is future oriented and has as its primary focus creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one's personal or professional life. The focus in a coaching relationship is on action, accountability and commitment to your own personal and professional growth.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as...

"partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential"

During the coaching realtionship the coach will help clients to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with their goals
  • Raise self awareness
  • Be responsible and accountable

This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.

To determine whether you could benefit from coaching, start by summarizing what you would expect to accomplish in coaching. What are the goals you want to achieve? When you have an idea of the desired outcome you want from working with a coach then the coaching partnership can be a useful tool for developing a strategy to successfully achieve that outcome.

Since coaching is a partnership, ask yourself whether collaboration, other viewpoints, and new perspectives are valued. Are you ready to devote the time and the energy to making real changes? If the answer is yes, then coaching may be a beneficial way to grow and develop.

  • There is something urgent, compelling or exciting at stake - a challenge or an opportunity
  • A gap exists in knowledge, skills, confidence or resources
  • A desire to accelerate results
  • A lack of clarity with choices to be made
  • Success has started to become problematic
  • Work and life are out of balance, creating unwanted consequences
  • Core strengths need to be identified, along with how best to leverage them

Coaching begins with a personal interview - usually by Skype, telephone, or face-to-face depending on your location. The focus of this meeting will be to assess the your current opportunities and challenges, identify priorities for action and establish desired outcomes.

Subsequent coaching sessions will be organised as part of the coaching agreement. Between scheduled coaching sessions, you will be asked to complete specific actions that support the achievement of your prioritised goals.

The length of a coaching partnership varies depending on your needs and preferences. Our suggested initial coaching commitment is for three months and then you will decide with your coach how you would like to proceed.

You can expect to start seeing progress in achieving your coaching goals that you established at the outset of the coaching relationship. During the coaching process you will also experience improved levels of self-awareness and shifts in your thinking that create more effective actions.

As in all things what you get from the coaching relationship is dependent about your level of commitment to your own success. Your coach will keep you accountable for your intentions. It is up to you to follow through on the action plans that you create in each of your coaching sessions.

If you are striving for your personal best, struggling with change or the demands of work and life and getting a balance between the two, an executive coach can help you achieve peak performance much like coaches help elite athletes or sporting teams to achieve their best outcomes.

In today’s demanding world, business people are under increasing pressure to deliver exceptional outcomes. Very often, they compromise their own life goals and personal successes for their careers and end up disillusioned and dissatisfied with life, spending too many hours at work and not enough hours with family, loved ones, or tending to their health, hobbies and other aspects of life. Some seek a way out, a career change; others stick with it, despite not necessarily gaining great satisfaction or joy from their roles. Sometimes this can lead to disconnectedness which,, combined with long hours and stress, results in a downturn in physical, emotional and mental health and, ultimately, burnout.

Whether you are stuck in the “too busy roundabout” with no time for anything in life but work and caught in the “go-go buzz” or you have started the slippery slide towards constant fatigue, stress and potential burnout, an executive coach is the professional to call on to help create the life you are seeking.
